To understand the Citizen Journalism or Citizen-Centered Journalism and the role of citizen as Active Community Reporters aka Citizen Journalist we need to define and discuss the all the elements involved.
Let’s Start with ‘WHAT IS JOURNALISM?’
A elementary or fundamental definition of journalism is the collecting, assembling, and presenting information that relates to an instance, event or happening. The Purpose of doing all this is to Seek Real – the Truth and Report It, as it is. Truth is the heart of journalism. Society / Community members (Readers or Audiences) rely on journalists for verified information from official sources.
The main purpose of journalism is to provide the public with accurate, timely, useful information about the world. Journalists inform their audience by reporting on what is most relevant to them.
It is evident that Citizen Journalism have disrupted major traditional news-media ecosystems by challenging the veracity and choices of information flowing from mainstream news-media editor’s Desks and corporate-funded/influenced newsrooms. The dedicated and desired level of citizen involvement in the news reporting and publishing process is considered as a crucial and influential way with the growth of internet and digital ecosystem. It began before the citizen-journalism phenomenon. The role of citizen journalism in democracy, including the extent that the common public as conscious citizens should participate in the news-gathering, event-reporting and media production processes is gaining momentum now and the monetization of online social media channels is fueling the revolution.
Citizen Journalists are Citizen Reporters or Journalists who produce many different types of content for various media, eg. print, news channels, digital platforms (blogs/forums/web portals) and social media platforms (eg. facebook, twitter, telegram, whatsapp etc), but their work is tied together by the fact that they all focus on nonfiction information related in some way to current events and report or publish it, after verification from more than one credible sources.
This questioning of common yet conscious citizen involvement in journalism or news reporting reemerged as an issue with the citizen journalism phenomenon around the late 1990s. Citizen centered Journalism, journalism that is conducted by people who are not professional journalists but who disseminate information using Web sites, blogs, and social media. Creative Writers, Bloggers, Social Media Creators, Digital News Reporters and Active Creative Community Leaders with no news-media organizational ties have taken advantage of the convenience and low cost of social computing technologies by writing and publishing their own stories and digital content (Videos, Podcasts, Posts and Articles). These people are technically referred to as citizen journalists

Get trained as Citizen Journalists. Start working independently through News Portals, blogs, websites or social media or work alongside professional news journalists. Citizen journalists often work in collaboration with professional news reporters by using the Digital News Ecosystem through published articles, live blogging, or news crowdsourcing.
